Cycling: Croall out to prove not one point but two

Capital cyclist Bruce Croall has twin incentives to perform well in the kilometre time trial which is one of three titles being decided in tonight's opening session of the Scottish Track Championships at Meadowbank.

The City of Edinburgh rider is bidding for a fifth successive victory in the event and will also be keen to post a fast time to prove that his omission from the Scotland Commonwealth Games team was unjustified.

In addition, the junior men's pursuit and the first of the women's events, the 500 metres time trial, will take place. Croall's team mate Charline Joiner is the defending champion, with her closest challenger likely to be her colleague Jenny Davis.

Both riders have been selected for the Commonwealth Games and the weekend will also see the appearance of Delhi-bound teenagers Callum Skinner and John Paul. They will be in action on Sunday when they combine with Croall for the team sprint. The City of Edinburgh trio will seek to maintain the club's incredible record of never having failed to win the title.
