Cycling: Cavendish goes for win

Mark CAVENDISH will today seek his second win of the 2011 Tour de France after a crash-strewn fifth stage Bradley Wiggins was pleased to merely survive.

HTC-Highroad sprinter Cavendish, who is expected to join Wiggins at Team Sky in 2012, scorched to the 16th Tour stage success of his career on yesterday's 164.5-kilometre route from Carhaix to Cap Frehel on the Brittany coast.

Entering today's sixth stage, Cavendish was fourth in the race for the maillot vert, 36 points behind Philippe Gilbert.

Cavendish would perhaps be closer had he not been impeded at the day's intermediate sprint by Jose Joaquin Rojas and Tom Boonen, who were later punished and docked points.

Rojas also lost the green jersey to Gilbert.

Wiggins, meanwhile, remains sixth overall, ten seconds behind yellow jersey Thor Hushovd.
