Cycling: Callum Skinner has Good Friday with wins

CAPITAL cycling star Callum Skinner made a successful start to his 2013 campaign when he recorded two wins and a second place at the Herne Hill Good Friday Meeting in London yesterday.

Despite the chilly conditions, the 20-year-old City of Edinburgh rider proved to be the quickest qualifier in the sprint with a time of 11.08 seconds.

The mark was substantially better than that of German Robert Foerstemann, who was second fastest, while, Skinner’s team mate John Paul took fourth spot.

Skinner just got the better of Paul at the semi-final stage but had no answer to the all-round power of Foerstemann in the final.

However, Skinner avenged that loss when he took the honours in a desperately tight finish to the Keirin, with Paul and Foerstemann in the minor places.

Skinner then chalked up his second win of the day when he pipped Paul for top spot in the 500 metres handicap.
