Cycling: Callum Skinner aims to bounce back

Capital cyclist Callum Skinner will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing senior Great Britain debut when he returns to the saddle at the UCI World Cup in Beijing tonight.

The 19-year-old City of Edinburgh rider anchored a youthful British trio that also featured Philip Hindes and Pete Mitchell in the team sprint. Their qualifying time of 45.351 seconds was only good enough for 11th place, almost a full second slower than the Russian threesome which led the way, and 0.613 seconds outside the time needed to secure a slot in the medal rides.

Skinner’s opportunity to atone for that disappointing result will come sooner than anticipated. In addition to contesting the individual sprint tomorrow, he is in tonight’s Keirin.
