Currie’s young cup hero has Scott the lot

“Despite the scoreline we were under a wee bit of pressure in the scrums but Scott helped deal with that as well as leading the team,” said Muir, adding: “He is one of four Currie players to have represented Scotland Under-16s this season and we have never had such strong representation at that age-group so the future is bright.

“Depending on whether studies move him away from Edinburgh I can see Scott doing the same job that Ross Weston continues to do so well for the top team and going on from there.”

Currie are due to hold a coaches’ meeting tonight to plan ahead with the priority likely to be reintroducing an under-18 team.

Muir added: “Thanks to under-16s coach Andy Jones and his team of Dai Davies, Dallas Rhodes, Gordon Hagart and medic Karen Barclay two line-ups have been fielded this season at that age group.

“The way Andy has dealt with everything from coaching to management to ensuring physio cover has been brilliant and although he intends a break after 11 years with the same group we will ensure he remains involved somewhere in the organisation.

“Fortunately coach Duncan Wilson has a large group of under-15s ready to step up and we really want an under-18 side again.”

Work is now underway refurbishing disused changing rooms which will be needed when a new pitch becomes operational at Malleny Park next year.

Muir said: “Grants from Sportscotland, the local authority and Cashback in conjunction with Scottish Rugby have taken us to within £30,000 of the required £130,000.

“Major fund raising is now underway with the next event a barn dance at Freelands Farm, Ratho, on May 18.”
