Currie 37 - 27 Dundee HSFP: Hosts cook up convincing win

CURRIE continued their recovery from a disastrous start to the RBS Premiership campaign when they harvested five points from an engrossing encounter that hung in the balance right to the final whistle.

Dundee contributed handsomely to the contest and could consider themselves unfortunate to finish empty-handed.

The visitors drew first blood when Jack Steele slotted a penalty in four minutes. That sparked Currie into life and Richard Snedden picked up at a ruck then chipped neatly over the Dundee defence for Simon Marcell to touch down. Jamie Forbes converted. The visitors responded with two more penalties by Steele to nudge them back in front after 27 minutes.

And they extended their advantage when winger Andy McLean took a pass inside his own half and set off on a mazy run that took him past three defenders on his way to the try line.

Forbes was on target with a penalty then added the extras after Barry Mansfield had profited from a break by Andy Binikos to grab Currie’s second try. But an injury time penalty by Steele squared matters at the break.

Forbes landed his second penalty, but a bullocking run by Richie McIver fed prop Alan Brown for a try. Steele booted the conversion then penalty No.5 for a seven-point gap.Parity was restored when Ross Weston burrowed over and Forbes added the extras. The full-back then eased Currie ahead with his third penalty.

And the hosts finally shrugged off their gritty opponents when a crunching tackle by Dougie Fife on Danny Levison dislodged the ball which fell kindly for Mansfield who darted over for the bonus point score, which Forbes converted.
