Currie 20 - 7 Boroughmuir: Jamie Forbes boots Currie to derby victory

There is inevitably an added frisson when near neighbours clash and so it was when these rivals went head-to-head.In a tight clash in which there were some tousy, torrid exchanges, it was Currie who came out on top, thanks in large part to full-back Jamie Forbes.

It was Currie who edged the opening period thanks to the kicking skills of Forbes, who nudged over a brace of penalties, one early on, the other the final act of the opening 40 minutes.

Currie further enhanced their position immediately after the break and it was Forbes who delivered again, reacting first and speedily to win a footrace to a charged-down ball that bobbled invitingly over the visitors’ line.

There was an effervescence to Currie’s play that Boroughmuir struggled to cope with, forwards and backs linking effectively, and the pressure paid off midway through the half when Muir were twice penalised, Forbes chipping on both occasion for a further six points.

Boroughmuir plugged away and were rewarded late on with a try from Jamie Swanson that was converted by Ally Warnock.

But it was too little, too late and Currie held on comfortably and even had the last word when that man Forbes yet again put boot to ball to complete the scoring in a deserved win.
