Currie 18 - 36 Ayr: Visitors shine in attack and defence

AYR’S title challenge may have floundered some time ago, but the Millbrae men still have plenty to play for.

With a British & Irish Cup place and the RBS Cup still within their grasp, coach Kenny Murray saw his side produce some outstanding rugby on Saturday.

Five tries in the first-half from Gordon Reid, Ross Curle, Grant Anderson, Rob Colhoun and Steve Manning, meant the visitors had the game under control at the break. They led 31-13 at that stage, with Jamie Forbes claiming all the Currie points through a converted try and two penalties.

However, the match was won in the third quarter when a supreme defensive effort kept Currie at bay. For the hosts, Barry Mansfield did touch down, but a second score for Anderson saw the visitors home.
