Curling: Murrayfield duo win epics

Murrayfield curlers John Hamilton and Struan Macnee stayed on course to reach next month’s Scottish Championship finals after epic qualifying victories in Perth yesterday.

Hamilton came from 5-2 down to beat former world champion Ewan MacDonald 7-5 in the morning before recovering from another three-stone deficit to pip Forfar’s Sandy Reid 4-3.

Macnee produced similar heroics against Lockerbie’s Duncan Gracie, winning 7-6 after an extra end despite trailing 6-3. The Edinburgh skips both have three wins out of four and top Section A with MacDonald going into this weekend’s remaining qualifying matches.
