Curling: Dodds Sochis it to Americans

Edinburgh curler Jennifer Dodds helped Lockerbie’s Hannah Fleming to get off to
a winning start at the World Junior Championships in Sochi,
Russia.

Dodds, Fleming, Lauren Gray and Abi Brown began their
defence of the title against the rink of the United States’
Miranda Solem and soon trailed 2-0 in their opening round robin match. But the Scots then picked up four stones at both the third and sixth ends to go 8-3 up before turning that
advantage into a 9-7 win.

“That was a great start,” smiled Fleming. “It was pretty consistent and we played pretty well throughout. They fought back in the second half, but we managed to stay on top of them.”

The Scots play twice today against Russia and Canada.
