Cup shock as Cartha stun Boroughmuir

CARTHA Queen's Park produced a shock result in the Scottish Hydro Cup last night by beating Premier One side Boroughmuir 27-15 at Dumbreck.

Boroughmuir eventually progressed to the first round without playing when their hosts Kirkcaldy were eliminated from the cup by the SRU's championship committee last week for failure to fulfil the fixture after nine abandoned attempts.

However, the Meggetland side were caught cold last night as Cartha, currently third bottom of Scottish Hydro Premier Three and not yet clear of relegation to the national leagues, scored three tries in the first-half through a brace from back row Ross Gillies and one from lock Graham Williamson to lead 19-0 at the interval.

The favourites came back in the second half, but a fourth try by scrum-half Andy Scott and a penalty from his half-back partner Michael Sherlock proved enough.

Cartha will now play Perthshire in the cup's second round this Saturday, again at Dumbreck, with a 1pm kick-off.
