Cup clash is pitch perfect for Skye

A PIECE of sporting history was made yesterday when Glasgow Mid Argyll and Skye contested the first ever shinty match on artificial turf.

The Thomas Ferguson Memorial Cup clash between the sides was initially pencilled in for Yoker but a frozen pitch forced a change of venue.

Both teams decamped to a 3G surface in Cumbernauld, with Skye winning 7-5. Glasgow boss George Hay was happy with the surface. He said:

"(It] ran like a fast grass park in summer."
