Cult hero: Terry Christie

ANYONE taking charge of the worst team in the league tends to need a thick skin. In the case of Terry Christie, his trademark duffel coat did the trick.

A head teacher, Christie became manager of Meadowbank Thistle in 1980, took them to the Second Division title and came within a whisker of leading them into the top division.

He performed much the same feat at Stenhousemuir, reaching the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup, stunning Aberdeen 2-0 in the process, and then leading them to the first trophy in their history, the Challenge Cup, in 1995.
