Cult hero: Bobby Stokes

HE FOREVER will be remembered for scoring the only goal in the 1976 FA Cup final at Wembley for Southampton, beating Tommy Docherty's big favourites Manchester United.

Southampton, who returned to Wembley yesterday to lift the Johnstone's Paint Trophy after a 4-1 victory over Carlisle United, were then a second-tier team and it remains their highest honour. Stokes scored in the 83rd minute to become an instant hero. He died in 1995 after contracting pneumonia, aged just 44.
