Cross Country: Matheson set for Spain trip

ROSS MATHESON (Lasswade) has had his Under-20 place confirmed in the UK team for the World Cross Country Championships in Spain on March 20.

Matheson, who should have been an automatic choice after finishing third in last Saturday's Inter-Counties Championships in Birmingham, is one of only two Scots in the 24-strong team, the other being Scottish senior champion Derek Hawkins (Kilbarchan), who has been given a discretionary place after finishing sixth in the senior race.

Matheson's coach Dave Campbell is looking forward to this weekend's NCAA Indoor Championships in Texas where two of his former athletes Chris O'Hare (Tulsa) and Kris Gauson (Butler) may clash in the one-mile event.
