New Zealand bowler Doug Bracewell apologises

FAST bowler Doug Bracewell has apologised for his behaviour in the build-up to New Zealand’s first Test against England after cutting his right foot on glass in an “unfortunate accident”.

Reports yesterday morning suggested that the 22-year-old may have suffered the injury during or after a party at his Napier home over the weekend.

New Zealand Cricket last night confirmed how the gash was sustained and revealed that the player, who has expressed remorse, has been warned as to his future conduct. A statement from NZC read: “New Zealand Cricket has reminded Black Caps fast bowler Doug Bracewell of his obligations and responsibilities... Bracewell is in doubt for the first ANZ Test [starting on Wednesday, local time] after an unfortunate accident where he cut his right foot on some glass while cleaning up at his Napier home on Saturday morning.”

A decision on Bracewell’s availability for the first Test, which gets under way at 2130 GMT tonight, will be made after today’s training session (0200 GMT). Ian Butler is cover for Bracewell.
