McPherson drives Carlton to top of Super Sixes group

SCOTTISH champions Carlton were celebrating at the double last night after match-winning shows from two of their talented youngsters on either side of the world.

At the National Academy, Edinburgh, teenager Kyle McPherson upstaged his team-mates as the Grange Loan side launched their bid to win back the Super Sixes title in style.

McPherson stroked a superb unbeaten 47 in a total of 129-4 to help beat champions Grange, who were dismissed for just 51. McPherson was unbeaten again – this time on 38 – as Carlton overwhelmed Stenhousemuir to cement their place at the top of Group A. McPherson played second fiddle to Scotland batsman Preston Mommsen, who made 53 not out in a total of 167-3. Gregor Maiden and former Warwickshire star Michael Powell helped Grange salvage pride with 30 and 27 in a 21-run defeat of Stenhousemuir.
