Girls push the boundaries in national tournament

CRICKET: A collection of pupils from the Kinross area opened the new school year in style by winning the inaugural Scottish National Girls’ Kwik Cricket Tournament.

Rebecca Peedle, Eleanor Culley, Hannah Robb (all Cleish Primary), Hannah Peedle (Kinross Primary), Sally Weir (Dollar Academy), Abigail Hall, Holly MacLachlan (both Muckhart Primary), Beatrice Reynolds (Craigclowan School) and Kelly Smart Dunbarney (Bridge of Earn Primary) joined forces to take the title ahead of Loretto School.

A softball version of the game, the girls demonstrated their skills under the watchful eyes of Scotland Wildcats – Abbi Aitken, Fi Urquhart and Kari Anderson.

The Scottish international trio handed on some tip 
to the youngsters and were 
impressed by the enthusiasm and standard of play.

Commenting on the 
cricket on display, Wildcats captain Aitken said: “It’s great to see so many girls playing the game.

“The future of girls and women’s cricket is looking healthy.”

The Loretto runners-up were Daisy Dobson, Rachel Corbett, Izzy Lamotte, Savannah Pearce, Francesca McGhie, Maddie 
Hillier, Domino Geddes and Mairi Conway.
