First Division: Glenrothes and Falkland forge ahead

THE balance of power has certainly shifted on the Fife cricket scene.

Not so long ago, Dunfermline and Freuchie were the clubs to the fore – but now Glenrothes and Falkland are hogging the limelight.

Both were in prime form at the weekend to record thoroughly convincing triumphs in the CSL First Division.

Glens maintained their 100 per cent record with a demolition job on West Lothian. However, the most clinical display came from second-placed Falkland, who bulldozed Penicuik at Scroggie Park.

Falkland rattled up 353 for three, with Melbourne youngster Alex Bychkov thumping an unbeaten 150 and South Australian Nick Lockyer hitting 84 not out. The home attack then completed the 244-run win.

Ryan Watson (73) and Sanjay Rakshit (53no) provided the backbone of the Glenrothes tally of 270 for six on their home track. Jatinder Pal then took five wickets which sent West Lothian sliding to 219 all out.

Freuchie’s miserable campaign continued, but at least they made Forfarshire scrap for the points at Forthill.

In the Western Zone, Greenock swept aside Poloc at the Tail o’ the Bank. Amateur import Fraser Colson starred with bat and ball (95 then three for 39). However, rookie Neil Flack thrilled the locals with his 72.

There was a home win for Kelburne over Prestwick, while Ferguslie and East Kilbride won at Weirs and Stenhousemuir respectively.
