Dunedin rain keeps England on top

THE final day’s play in the first Test between New Zealand and South Africa in Dunedin was washed out and the match declared a draw.

The rain, which started falling around 7pm local time on Saturday, never eased up and left the potential thrilling fifth day stymied. The result means the Proteas cannot unseat England as the world’s No 1 Test side during this series. A 3-0 whitewash to match their one-day international efforts would have done so.
