Cricket: Seams like Olivier wants more glory

Sean OLIVIER helped Carlton cricketers shrug aside a disappointing league defeat less than 24 hours earlier against Heriot’s with a remarkable performance at Clydesdale to secure a Scottish Cup semi-final place.

In ideal conditions for seam bowling, Olivier took 7-30 with Aussie Michael Herdman also claiming three wickets as Clydesdale were dismissed for 56. Although Carlton stumbled occasionally in reply, they achieved their target with six wickets down.

Carlton join Watsonians in the last four, who had Ewan Chalmers (87) and Andy Fraser-Harris (74 not out) as mainstays of an eight wicket win at Renfrew.

Heriot’s, however, will have to wait for a chance to join the capital pair after their scheduled tie at East Kilbride was washed out.

Grange are on the march in the second tier Cricket Scotland Trophy after beating Dumfries at Newfield but in the Small Clubs Cup Final, Meadows-based Morton went down to Aberdeen Bon Accord at Forfar.

Batting first, the Dons made 183 and East Division Four’s Morton made 105.
