The two countries had planned a five-match multi-format series involving T20 and one-day matches to take place at the neutral venue later this month.

However, renewed travel restrictions placed on British nationals arriving in Spain until the end of this month due to coronavirus have made it impossible for Scotland’s Wildcats to travel.

Cricket Scotland chief executive Gus Mackay said: “It is very disappointing that we have not been able to make this series happen.

“It is a particularly hard blow for the women who have taken time off work to play these matches, only to have their plans reversed.”

With little cricket played in 2020 due to the pandemic, this year is crucial for Scotland’s women with both ICC Women’s T20 World Cup and Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games qualification at stake.
