Cricket: It’s high five for Aslam as Carlton II win

Youngster Haris Aslam took five wickets yesterday as Carlton II defeated the Eastern Regional Academy in East One.

With the majority of Saturday’s East League card lost to the wet weather the spotlight in the top flight at the weekend fell on Grange Loan on Sunday.

And spinner Aslam did not disappoint against an Academy side made up of many players he knows well from representative duties and such like.

His 5-17 helped to bowl out the teenagers for 125 all out as they batting first in between various rain showers.

Another young player Fraser Allardice then led the way with the bat, his 41 helping Carlton II to their victory target with seven wickets to spare. Aslam’s good day ended when he chipped in with 19 not out while Ruari Macpherson was 18 not out.

The win was Carlton II’s fifth of the league campaign and keeps them hot on the heels of the leaders Glenrothes and Holy Cross.

On Saturday all of the East One fixtures were off.

In one of the few East League matches to beat the weather on Saturday, Kelso got closer to the top two of Falkland II and SMRH II in East Four by defeating Morton.
