Cricket: India complete Australia whitewash

INDIA wrapped up a series whitewash over Australia by securing a six-wicket win on day three of the fourth Test in Delhi.

Cheteshwar Pujara’s unbeaten 82 saw the hosts comfortably home with 158 for four after skittling their opponents for 164 in their second innings.

Ravindra Jadeja took five for 58 to do most of the damage, with only tail-ender Peter Siddle offering any resistance with 50 as Australia’s batsmen undid all the good work achieved on Saturday and first thing yesterday morning by Nathan Lyon. The chase always looked well within India’s grasp and was achieved with room to spare, despite two more wickets for Lyon, who finished with nine for the match.

In Johannesburg, South Africa coasted to a six-wicket win over Pakistan yesterday to take the one-day series 3-2 with another match-winning innings by captain AB de Villiers in the decider.

De Villiers hit 95 not out to return three half-centuries and a century in the five games, ensuring South Africa overtook Pakistan’s 205 all out and finished their international season at home on a high ahead of the Champions Trophy, the main limited-overs tournament of 2013.

De Villiers’ key 87-run partnership with Farhaan Behardien (35) moved South Africa away from signs of trouble at 83-3 and to an eventually easy win at Willowmoore Park in Benoni.

South Africa went to 208-4 and won with 36 balls to spare.
