Cricket: Heriot’s into Scottish Cup final via D/L

Heriot’s reached their first Scottish Cup cricket final since 2000 yesterday after high
drama at Goldenacre.

Having made 198 all out against Carlton in the semi-
final, the visitors then progressed to 65-2 in 20.4 overs before the heavens opened. With no chance of getting back out again, the Duckworth/Lewis method came in to play and the calculations found that Heriot’s were just ahead.

They will play either Watsonians or Stenhousemuir in the final at Titwood on Sunday, September 2. Their semi-final will be played again at Myreside this Sunday after rain halted their match at The Tryst yesterday before D/L could be used. Batting first, the hosts made 182 all out.

Grange’s CS Trophy semi-final at Aberdeenshire, meanwhile, never got started due to the weather and is also likely to be squeezed in next Sunday.

In a club match that was completed yesterday, Tranent lifted the President’s Plate at Lewisvale. The East Lothian men chased down Holy Cross II’s total of 80 for victory.
