Cricket: Heriot’s cup ton double troubles Falkland

SELDOM do two players break the three-figure barrier in the same innings in domestic cricket, but that’s what happened yesterday when Heriot’s crushed Falkland in the Scottish Cup.

Adam Lockhart-Krause smashed 108 not out and David Ross 106 in a 59-run victory at Goldenacre.

Their efforts enabled Heriot’s to surge to 296 for two, a tally that always looked beyond the scope of the Fifers, who have been in great form in the First Division.

A superb 130 by Matty Parker wasn’t enough to inspire Forfarshire to glory against his former Arbroath mates in a Lochlands derby thriller.

The hosts needed five from the last over with only one wicket in hand in a tension-packed climax and they scrambled the clinching run off the penultimate delivery.

Forfarshire had posted 255 for nine, with skipper Craig Wallace (69) giving Parker stout support.

East Kilbride blew Group A wide open with a well-merited success at the expense of Clydesdale, the club who have claimed the trophy more times than any other.

Stewart Kampman held his nerve at Titwood with an unbeaten half-century to make sure of the six-wicket win with five overs to spare.

Drumpellier carried their impressive CSL momentum into the Scottish Cup as they swept aside the challenge of Weirs at Albert Park.

Jarrod Armitage (79) and Mohammed Ramzan (71 not out) provided the springboard for a Drumps total of 253 for four.

Imran Adrees then snapped up three wickets to send the home troops hurtling to 91 all out.

In the same section, Freuchie’s run of dismal results continued –but at least they made Watsonians battle for their six-wicket win at Muir Road.

Stuart Chalmers was the hero for the Edinburgh outfit, following up his five bowling scalps with a knock of 42. Andy Hislop was also in fine nick to strike an unbeaten 46 to guide Sonians to the target of 182.

Grange booked a slot in the knock-out stages with a predictably clear-cut triumph over Dundee HSFP on Tayside.

Ben Strachan (26) was the only home-turf batsman to put any real resistance as they crumbled to 109 all out. The visitors strolled over the finishing line in 22 overs with eight men to spare, Ian Worth top-scoring on 43.

Teenager Dave Kidd’s five-wicket haul propelled Stoneywood-Dyce to a convincing success at Penicuik to preserve their unbeaten record.

Glenrothes received a reality check at Riverside Park, where Aberdeenshire also had it easy.

Without former Scotland skipper Ryan Watson, the hosts struggled to cope with the Shire attack and were skittled for just 67, only two batters managing to get into double figures.

Adrian Neill was the destroyer-in-chief as he bagged three for 11 from his seven overs, while Harsha Cooray took three for 22.

Aberdeenshire shrugged off a jittery spell, during which they lost four wickets for nine runs, to complete the job thanks mainly to 30 not out from veteran Neil MacRae.
