Cricket: Flannigan returns to give Grange a lift against Dons

The damage that has caused a series of Saltires games to be relocated and the cancellation of the eagerly awaited encounter with England has also brought disruptions at club level.

Grange official Bobby Frazer said: “The latest switch, which we are hoping will be the last, is more to do with giving turf time to knit. A trench had to be cut around the square and water drained.”

After last weekend’s defeat at Watsonians, all-rounder Ryan Flannigan is back from Saltires duty and will provide a boost. Will Edwards drops out.

Match of the day is at  Goldenacre where Heriot’s hope to reverse a last ball defeat by Watsonians when the teams last met.

Both teams are also involved in Scottish Cup semi-finals on Sunday, with Heriot’s visiting Carlton and ’Sonians receiving Stenhousemuir.

Heriot’s coach Steve Knox says: “We are able to field the same team on both days, but Craig McKellar, Ali Farooq and Peter Ross are all missing.

“When we last met  Watsonians, our total of 286 wasn’t quite enough but it was a superb game of cricket.

“On Sunday, Carlton will have Preston Mommsen and Gordon Drummond playing for Saltires but that is balanced by our absences, including Peter Ross at the under-19 World Cup.”

Watsonians will be missing Ewan Chalmers and pro Jean Symes on Sunday due to the Saltires match as well as Craig Wright (coach) and Paddy Sadler at the under-19 World Cup. Wary skipper Stuart Chalmers said: “Stenhousemuir have already beaten some quality teams in the competition and this is the kind of match where they might feel they have nothing to lose and that will allow them to relax, free themselves up, and just go for it.”

For Carlton there is a chance to avenge an earlier Premiership defeat when they visit Stoneywood/Dyce.
