Cricket: David Warner back for Ashes

DAVID Warner heaped more embarrassment on Australia ahead of the Ashes when he was suspended and fined for the second time in a month, after attacking England’s Joe Root in a late-night bar incident in Birmingham.

Warner escaped being sent home in disgrace and can return from his ban in time to play in the first Ashes Test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, starting on 10 July.

After lashing out at two senior cricket journalists in an expletive-filled Twitter rant last month – earning Warner a $A5,750 (£3,800) fine – the opener allegedly punched Root on the chin after Australia’s 48-run loss to England in the Champions Trophy on Saturday.

Warner admitted to breaching Cricket Australia’s code of behaviour, and was suspended and fined $A11,500.
