Cricket: Wright time for young Scots to succeed

Scotland under-19 cricket coach Craig Wright believes his side can draw on recent successes by the Saltires as they prepare to embark today on a hectic campaign in Ireland spanning at least nine matches in looking to qualify for next year's age-group World Cup.

The Scots, captained by Watsonians' Paddy Sadler, have already progressed through European qualifiers to reach what Wright describes as "a bit of a journey into the unknown."

After today's opener against Canada, the Scots will tackle opposition as diverse as Vanuatu, Afghanistan and a Papua New Guinea side captained by Heriot's all-rounder Chris Kent, who came to Scotland on an scholarship, and also featuring Legga Siaka (Grange).

Wright said: "All we can really do is concentrate on our own skills and hope our preparations have been sufficient. A strong start from three games in the opening four days will also help.

"As well as coming through the Euro qualifying we had a pre-season tour of India."

Also included in the Scotland squad are Peter Ross (Heriot's), Henry Edwards (Grange) and Peter Legget (Watsonians).
