Cricket: Run-machine Raso is back

EDINBURGH ACCIES have managed to persuade one of the East League's most talented batsmen of recent seasons to return to the Capital for the 2010 cricket season, although Mick Raso will miss this weekend's opener.

Australian Raso scored 697 runs in 2008 in his first spell in Scotland as the club topped Division One. Accies, who open their campaign against Glenrothes at Newfield on Sunday, will hope he can help them go one better than last year's second place when he arrives in a couple of weeks.

Meanwhile, last year's champions, Fauldhouse, open up tomorrow at home to Boroughmuir.

Also tomorrow in the top flight, Holy Cross face Watsonians II at Arboretum and promoted sides Grange II and Imans Edinburgh II have home matches with Carlton II and Largo respectively.

On Sunday, Grange II play their second match of the weekend when they take on the Eastern Academy. The Academy will play each side once this summer to give some of the area's up-and-coming talent valuable competitive cricket.
