Cricket: Middle order to the rescue

GRANGE eased into the second round of the Murgitroyd Masterton knockout cricket trophy with more than three overs to spare against Peebles County at Raeburn Place, writes BILL LOTHIAN.

Faced with a total of 143-8, to which national tennis academy coach Marcel du Coudray contributed 37 not out, Grange found themselves at 37-4.

But a strong middle order rally featuring Simon Smith (38 no), Neil McCallum (36) and Michael Powell (28 no) put them on the road to victory and they achieved a winning total of 145-5 in 14 balls to spare of the Twenty20 contest.
