Cricket: Legget is the new kid on the block for Watsonians II

Teenager Pete Legget hit 76 not out as Watsonians II stayed on top of the East League Division One table with victory over Grange II at Myreside.

The hosts were struggling early on, but Scotland age-grade cap Legget came in at number seven to hit his half century. He was well supported by 39 from Euan Robertson and 34 from Raj Routray as they eventually posted 244-8. In reply Douglas Philip looked on course for his third successive century, but Robertson claimed his wicket for 89. James Hearn made 60, however Grange II were all out for 220, Robertson taking 4-12 and Routray 3-33.

Edinburgh Accies kept their title hopes alive by defeating Edinburgh II, while Carlton II's progress took a blow with a loss to Boroughmuir. Carlton II posted 185 batting first, Tom Clarke with 41, but the hosts reached their victory target with two wickets in hand.

Zahid Ali made 107 not out to set Fauldhouse up for a win against Holy Cross at Arboretum. The West Lothian men made 283-5 batting first with the hosts making 189 all out in reply to lose by 94 runs. Elsewhere, Glenrothes against Largo was abandoned after eight overs due to rain.

In the lower leagues Marchmont kept their Division Two promotion bid going by beating Westquarter by six wickets at Cavalry Park. And Nick Hay hit an unbeaten 90 as SMRH II defeated Murrayfield DAFS II in Division Five at Inverleith.
