Cricket: Former Scots skipper Wright quits Greenock

GREENOCK were dealt a blow last night when former skipper Craig Wright revealed he is leaving the club.

Wright, Scotland's most capped player, has starred for the Glenpark side for the last five seasons, leading them to Scottish Cup success in 2006 and helping to secure the league and cup double the following season.

But the 35-year-old has told the club he is leaving for work-related reasons. Greenock president David Campbell declared: "Craig has written to the club to explain his reasons for leaving and we fully understand his position.

He said: "Greenock is a club I have a very strong emotional attachment to and I will always have great memories of playing there."

The former Scotland captain is understood to be considering several offers from clubs nearer his home in the east of the country.
