Cricket: Flannigan in the running for 'Sonians

On Saturday Scotland cap Flannigan led the way with 81 at Titwood against Clydesdale and then scored 55 yesterday at Myreside in an eight wicket win over the National Academy.

Against Clydesdale, Watsonians did well to restrict the hosts to 228-7 after they had got off to a flying start. Spinner Vijay Saisubramanian picked up three wickets for the Edinburgh side.

In reply James Easton hit 39 opening the batting with Flannigan and the latter looked to be guiding his side home alongside Ewan Chalmers. However, their wickets both fell and their was a little wobble before Stuart Chalmers sealed the victory.

Twenty four hours later at Myreside debutant Nick Boorman was the star with the ball, the spinner taking 4-27.

Captain Steve Paige and Ross Paxton took 2-32 and 2-28 respectively as the young opponents were all out for 170.

In reply Flannigan hit three big sixes on the way to 55 before Tim Weston (54 not out) and Ewan Chalmers (35 not out) finished the job off.

Grange also won at the weekend, defeating bottom side Greenock on Saturday.

They had to work hard though, only an unbeaten half century from wicketkeeper Simon Smith seeing them to the 189 needed to win with three wickets in hand.

Earlier in the day Greenock were 188 all out, new pro Roy Adams taking four wickets and spinner Drew Weir taking three scalps on only his second top team outing.

In the First Division Andre Van Niekerk took four wickets as Heriot's stayed top with a comfortable win over Stenhousemuir. The home side bowled the visitors out for 141 at Goldenacre, Sean Weeraratna, Anthony Edington and Matthew Thomas also in the wickets.

Penicuik lost at Poloc by 148 runs, only Richard Partington and Matthew Foulds making it into double figures as they slumped to 89 all out.

RHC Corstorphine beat Freuchie in a low scoring match in the Second Division. They looked set for defeat after being bowled out for 121, but then they bowled out their opponents for 116.

SMRH also won, seeing off West Lothian, but Edinburgh lost away at Dumfries.
