Cricket: Ferguson half century sets Murrayfield on their way

Sam FERGUSON hit a stunning half century off just 27 balls to help Murrayfield DAFS defeat Carlton II in East One.

With last weekend's opening matches washed out, Saturday was the first time this season that all the clubs had spent a decent amount of time out in the middle and there were some cracking encounters.

At Roseburn Park Ferguson, who went on to make 66, saw the hosts post 183-9. In reply, Carlton II struggled from the off and were bowled out for 119 to lose by 64 runs, Tom Wheeler and Mangesh Akerkar the main men with the ball for DAFS with 4-26 and 3-4 respectively.

Reigning champions Watsonians II cruised to a win at Largo. The Myreside men bowled out the Fifers for just 80 and teenager Patrick Toole then led the way with 38 not out as Watsonians II won by nine wickets.

In a high scorer at Meggetland Boroughmuir did enough to see off Holy Cross. Ed Hutchison top scored with 83 and Manish Sachdeva made 75 as the home team made 271 all out.

In reply, Holy Cross made a good fist of it, but fell 25 runs short on 246.

Zahid Ali century helped Fauldhouse beat Marchmont at Cavalry Park, while Grange II beat Glenrothes.

Elsewhere, Gordy Philp hit his first ever century as Dunfermline Carnegie defeated Carlton III in East Four.
