Cricket: Crosby still smashes bowling as Sonians II win

RICHARD CROSBY starred with the bat once again as Watsonians II defeated reigning champions Fauldhouse at Myreside in East League Division One's match of the day.

Australian Crosby – who seven days previously had scored 159 against Glenrothes – led the way with 72 not out while wicketkeeper Ben Fox made 54 as the hosts posted 247-7 batting first. In reply the men from West Lothian were bowled out for 177 to lose by 70 runs. Derek Allan scored 83 while, for 'Sonians, Mark Yellowlees was the pick of the bowlers with 3-29.

Meanwhile, Carlton II's good run also continued on Saturday.

Batting first at Largo the Edinburgh outfit hit 287 from their 50 overs, Oli Tame scoring 89 not out and Ani Majumdar continuing his superb summer with 48.

In reply stand-in skipper Nathan Pietsch led the way with 5-30 as the hosts fell short by 62 runs.

Grange II also secured a top flight victory, bowling struggling Glenrothes out for 123 and then getting the runs required with five wickets to spare.

In the lower divisions there were a couple of superb bowling performances. In Division Two Rene Collins snapped up 6-32 as Musselburgh bowled out Leith FAB for 61 to set up a 10-wicket win while, in Division Eight, Colin McGill's figures were even more impressive for Holy Cross III.

He took 6-9 as Kismet II were bowled out for 71. Holy Cross III's batsmen then completed the victory with seven wickets in hand.
