Cricket: Champs Grange hail the next generation

Grange are kings of nearly all they survey on the Scottish domestic cricket scene today.

Just 24 hours after Grange seniors claimed a sixth Scottish Premiership in 11 years their under-18s added the national under-18 cup.

A last-ball final victory over Carlton by the colts was the latest in a string of Grange successes this season with captain Charlie Buchanan-Smith's under-15s also triumphant at national level while the under-13s, skippered by Rory Turnbull, were runners-up in their competition.

There was drama until the end at Stirling where Grange under-18s, having initially seen off Poloc thanks largely to captain and all-rounder Henry Edwards (71no and 3-23) went through to face Carlton.

Batting first Carlton scored 143-6 in which Tom Barrett top scored with 70 not out but a key figure for Grange was 14-year-old wicket-keeper Matthew Angelini with two catches and three stumpings.

Grange looked well placed at 114-2 in reply, especially with James Hearn on 55 but, as wickets tumbled it was left to Jazim Sohail to hit a boundary off the final delivery for victory.

It was Grange's first under-18 cup success built on a foundation of strong qualifying wins over Kinross and Penicuik in the regional stages.
