Cricket: Carlton II bounce back

TEENAGER Fraser Boyd led the way with a century as Carlton II bounced back from last weekend's defeat to the East Academy with a win over Boroughmuir.

Boyd scored 101 and was supported by 91 not out by Australian Simon Spry as the Grange Loan men were victorious by 218 runs to keep up their challenge at the top of East League Division One.

On his first appearance for the side since announcing his retirement from first XI cricket, Bryn Lockie made 23 but Boyd and Spry were the main men. Their 190-run partnership lit up Grange Loan as the hosts made 281-9.

'Muir were then blown away by Mohammed Habib. The Afghani seamer, dropped from the first XI, took 6-30 as Boroughmuir were bowled out for just 63.

Watsonians II also kept up their title challenge with a good win over Grange II.

The visitors bowled out the hosts for just 98 at Raeburn Place, Richard Crosby taking 5-16 and Andy Learmonth chipping in with two scalps.

George Cairns then hit 54 not out and Ally Fleming 36 not out as the men from Myreside won by nine wickets.

At Eastfield Park Fauldhouse saw off Holy Cross by seven wickets, chasing down the Edinburgh side's 141 all out with ease.

Edinburgh Accies' bowler Ryan Williams took 5-26 as they bowled Edinburgh II out for 109 before 35 not out from Andrew Cosh helped them make 111-3.
