Cricket: All eyes on big-hitter Nagi in East League

ALL eyes will be on East League cricket's latest double centurion when Drummond Trinity continue their campaign at home to Haddington in Division Three tomorrow.

Facing Grange 3rds last week, Shehzad Nagi blasted 212 in a club record total of 366-5 to follow in the wake of Teuchters' Richie Bartsch who hit 236 not out in a Division Eight match a fortnight earlier. For consistency, it is hard to look past Division Six side Morton who, in preparing to confront local rivals Old Contemptibles on the Meadows, boast the top three run-makers in Division Six which they lead with a 100 per cent record.

Setting the pace are Matt Lancashire (222), Matt Amis (161) and Nathan Senthiel (156).

Big hitting is clearly part of the Morton culture and in sealing victory for a similarly unbeaten 2nds over Drummond Trinity 2nds at the Meadows last week, Vera Naga smashed successive sixes to add to his 32 from the final over of a recent knock out cup win over Bank of Scotland.

Ahead of their Division Two match against RH Corstrophine 2nds tomorrow, Marchmont captain Sam Peachey praised Kiwi batsman Matt Loeffen.

He said: "Matt has already scored around 500 runs in all cricket for us this season."
