Craig Wright tipping current team to emulate historic victory in 2004

FORMER skipper Craig Wright last night backed Scotland to inflict another dose of misery on Bangladesh.

The sides go into One-Day International battle in Glasgow today with Wright insisting the conditions should be perfect for another historic home-turf success.

All rounder Wright was at the helm back in 2004 when his Scotland troops produced one of their greatest ever displays to claim the scalp of a Test nation for the first time and he made it clear he fully expects the same outcome at Citylets Titwood, as long as the rain does a bodyswerve.

Wright declared: "We have a very good record against Bangladesh in this country and I am confident the guys will give them a hard time once again, especially in the damp conditions we have at the moment. They are much more comfortable on bone-dry tracks, and I don't think their batsmen will enjoy facing up to our seam attack.

"We may not have out and out pace in the side, but we have guys such as Gordon Goudie, Gordon Drummond, Matthew Parker and Richie Berrington who can jag the ball around a bit.

"In all, I reckon we have a team capable of not only competing strongly with Bangladesh, but beating them."

Looking back on the triumph six years ago at Raeburn Place, Wright added: "I was lucky enough to be at the crease when we completed the win - though I wasn't in the best of fettle. I was limping around with a painful leg injury and Fraser Watts was on as my runner! I do remember it being a particularly thrilling match. We had run Pakistan quite close the previous year and had a very strong and settled squad in those days."

Bangladesh rattled up 259 for six and looked clear favourites to win. And when Dougie Lockhart perished in the first over for nought, the writing looked on the wall for Scotland.

But a marvellous and quick 83 from Ryan Watson, who was to take the leadership reins from Wright, provided the Scots with vital momentum. Fraser Watts also notched a half-century before Cedric English hit an unbeaten 49 to complete a memorable day for the hosts.

Wright said: "It was definitely one of the high points of my career and I am looking forward to seeing it happen again."
