Craig Chalmers to lead Baa-Baas at Bedford

CRAIG Chalmers will take the reins as Barbarians coach and Selkirk winger Lee Jones will make his debut in the 83rd Mobbs Memorial Match next Tuesday.

The Scotland sevens and club international cap is one of three Scots named in the side for the annual game against Bedford Blues. John Dalziel, the Melrose player-coach, and Edinburgh scrum-half Ross Samson return to the famous black-and-white hoops for the game that honours the memory of Lt-Col Edgar Mobbs DSO. But Chalmers will take the rare step from a Baa-Baas player – he played 14 times between 1989 and 2001 – to coach as he continues his rise in the game.

David Slemen and Sam Beaumont, sons of England's 1980 Grand Slam heroes Mike and skipper Bill respectively, are also in the team to play at Goldington Road in Bedford.
