Craig Chalmers to answer charges

CRAIG Chalmers will face a disciplinary hearing tonight along with Melrose centre Jamie Murray after allegations they abused match officials following the Melrose Sevens.

Chalmers and Murray, the Melrose captain, are accused of shouting at a match official, understood not to be the referee, in the Greenyards clubrooms several hours after the tournament ended. The officials reported the Melrose coach and player to their local referees society, who in turn passed it up to Murrayfield. The independent disciplinary hearing was scheduled for last month, but was postponed after the death of a relative of one of the officials.

The pair will now appear at Murrayfield tonight to answer a complaint of misconduct where it is alleged that both individuals contravened rule 13.3.2 of the Scottish Rugby Disciplinary Procedures 2009/10, that is 'acting in an abusive, insulting, intimidating or offensive manner towards any person, referees, assistant referees or other officials or any other person otherwise in attendance at the match as spectators or in any other capacity', or the catch-all rule 13.3.8 'any breach of the Code of Conduct'.
