Coyne confident that title is there to be picked up by bolstered Rose

TOMMY COYNE is confident Linlithgow Rose, who face new boys Forfar West End away tomorrow, are strong enough to win the Super League this season.

And he fully expects new strike partner Colin Strickland to weigh in with his fair share of goals to help that title challenge.

After three straight wins, Rose are sitting at the top of the table, ahead of Hill of Beath on goal difference.

Last season's Scottish Cup winners bolstered their squad in the summer, with former Whitburn hitman Strickland one of the players snapped up by Dave Baikie.

"I think even from winning the Scottish last year that we are pushing on again," said Coyne, the two-goal hero in the midweek League Cup final win over Camelon. "I think we are gelling well and looking hard to beat." On his partnership with Strickland, he added: "Coco is a quality player - I know that from having played alongside him for Scotland.

"He's maybe not getting the break of the ball in the box just now but that will come."

Coyne is also confident he can keep scoring goals by getting on the end of skipper John Ward's powerful headers from defence - as he did for the equaliser in the 2-1 win over Camelon.

"I make my run even before he heads it because I know he's going to win it - the manager has been telling me to gamble off his headers and, thankfully, it came off the other night," said the striker.
