Connachan wins first ever Links Golf Cup

EAST LOTHIAN resident David Connachan coped best with some extremely difficult weather conditions to claim the inaugural Links Golf Cup, a TaylorMade-sponsored amateur golf event which took place over Gullane 1 and 2, Longniddry and North Berwick.

The Castle Park member put his local knowledge to good effect, posting Stableford scores of 30-28-40-28 for a four-round total of 126 and was presented with the trophy by North Berwick’s managing secretary Chris Spencer.

Bedlingtonshire’s Craig Moat finished second on 120, with Charlie Wilson from Kent third with 118.

In the team event, the “Northern Nutters” hailing from the north-east of England – a team made up of second-placed Moat, Glen Angus,
Michael Pinfold and Karl Robinson – pipped four Kent-based golfers competing as “Team Big Rock”.

“Despite the unseasonal weather all competitors were full of praise for the event and many are already planning to return next year,” said organiser Andy Bowen. “The adverse conditions undoubtedly brought the competitors together and many new friendships were formed throughout the week and at the presentation dinner hosted by the Macdonald Marine Hotel.”
