In her -63kg semi, the three-times Olympian scored a thrilling win against Katharina Haecker - possibly the most dramatic of the morning session in Hall 3 of the SECC - as the Australian competitor writhed and bucked but could not free herself from Clark’s hold. In the final the Scot goes against Helene Wezeu Dombeu of Cameroon.

But there was disappointment for the other Scots on Day 2 of the judo, Sally Conway and Patrick Dawson. Conway’s semi at -70kg against England’s Megan Fletcher was just as exciting for the packed crowd. Conway led with a yuko and possibly thought the contest was won. There followed two lengthy delays while her opponent received treatment for a nose injury, requiring her to wear a bandage across her face. Undaunted, Fletcher then levelled up the contest, winning it in golden time. She’ll now compete for bronze along with Patrick Dawson in the -73g.
