21.15pm: More medals for Team Scotland in the 200m breastroke final: Gold for Ross Murdoch, and silver for Michael Jamieson! Murdoch sets a new British record. Jamieson, who was expected by many to take the gold, looked in control but great last 50 for Murdoch gave him win in Games record time. Calum Tait fifth.

21.05pm: Fantastic day for Scottish judo - six judoka, six medals, the Renicks sisters both taking gold. One of the medallists, James Millar, announces his retirement after winning bronze in -66kgs category

A women’s singles bowls result in, and by all reports something of a thriller. Scot Caroline Brown beat Wales counterpart Caroline Taylor 21-8.

20.43pm: More medals for Scotland! Stephanie Inglis loses out to Nekoda Davis of England to give @Team_Scotland a silver medal in -57kg. Connie Ramsay makes it another judo bronze for Team Scotland.

Meanwhile, other results that have come in for badminton: in Group C, Gilmour bt Johnston 21-4 21-7; Meririlees bt Penney 21-7 21-4 in the same group earlier today.

A netball result also in: Jamaica thump St Lucia by a whopping 88-24 in their preliminary round match.

Table Tennis: Bangladesh, Nigeria, India and Barbados were also triumphant. Elsewhere, Ghana, Guyana, England, Singapore men’s teams have all won their group games.

20.25pm: A clutch of results for you. In the men’s para-sport 100m free S9won by 16-year-old Aussie Rowan Crothers in a world record time. In the squash: Steve Finitis (AUS) eases past Welshman Joel Makin to reach men’s singles round of 16. Ivan Yuen (MAS) also defeats Bradley Hindle (MLT) 3-1 to advance to the men’s singles last 16. 16.52pm: Scotland’s men’s team sprint miss out on medal qualification by 200ths of a second. England and New Zealand will battle for gold, while Australia and Canada contest the bronze. Meanwhile, Aileen McGlynn has lost the first round of the Para Sport tandem sprint finals against England’s Thornhill. Best of three.

16.49pm: Wales are in the mix to win a gold medal at the rhythmic gymnastics after finishing second at the halfway stage of the team final. Represented by Laura Halford, Nikara Jenkins and Frankie Jones, they are second after two of four rotations at the Hydro.

15.38pm: Couple of results in for the last 40 minutes or so: Australia’s women’s netball team defeat Wales 63-36 in their preliminary round match. In the table tennis, England, New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia, Wales and Barbados have won their group matches.

15.24pm: Sir Bradley Wiggins has led his England team to the final of the team pursuit, where they’ll face Australia. Meanwhile, Aileen McGlynn and Louise Haston are now guaranteed a silver or gold medal in the para-cycling tandem sprint event.

14:08pm: The first gold of Glasgow 2014 has been won by England. Jodie Stimpson took the top prize in the women’s triathlon in glorious sunshine in Strathclyde Park, and there was a bronze for countrywoman Vicky Holland.

12.57pm: Netball: Malawi have defeated Northern Ireland 71-50 in their Pool A encounter.

12.37pm: Australia’s Matthew Glaetzer set a new Commonwealth men’s sprint record as the mark was lowered five times in qualifying at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.

Glaetzer, 21, topped the timesheets with 9.779 seconds. Triple Olympic champion Jason Kenny was pushed into 11th place in 10.206s.

Kenny will be joined in the next stage by Wales’ Lewis Oliva, Scotland’s Callum Skinner (10th) and team-mate Matt Crampton, who edged the final qualifying spot by 0.044s.

Scottish pair John Paul and Chris Pritchard ranked 14th and 18th respectively.

In the women’s B2 sprint tandem, England’s Sophie Thornhill and Helen Scott topped qualifying in 11.277, just in front of home favourites Aileen McGlynn and Louise Haston.

12.33pm: Host nation Scotland got their Commonwealth Games badminton challenge off to a flying start with a convincing 5-0 victory over the Seychelles in the team event.

The Scots made a clean sweep of all five disciplines against their part-time opponents to open their Group C programme in confident and commanding fashion at the Emirates Arena.

Scotland were rarely tested and the result seemed in little doubt after Martin Campbell and Jillie Cooper raced to a 21-11 21-5 mixed doubles victory over Georgie Cupidon and Juliette Ah-Wan.

12.24pm: England’s Sophie Taylor qualified for the women’s 50m breaststroke semi-final with a time of 30.56, the second fastest in the heats, along with fellow countrywoman Molly Renshaw.

Scotland trio, Corrie Scott, Kathryn Johnstone and Andrea Strachan also got through with Wales’ Bethan Sloan.

12.07pm: Prime Minister David Cameron has thanked Sir Chris Hoy for his unexpected role in helping deliver the Queen’s message at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.

Cameron took in the men’s track sprint qualifying on day one of the Games in Glasgow, which takes place in the velodrome named after Great Britain’s most decorated Olympian.

Having had a starring role in Wednesday’s ceremony at Celtic Park, Hoy stepped in to assist Prince Imran of Malaysia as he struggled to open the baton that contained Her Majesty’s address.

11.56am: In an exciting men’s 400m freestyle heat, Stephen Milne beat fellow Scots Dan Wallace and Robbie Renwick with a time of 3:46.88, with all three qualifying for the final tonight.

11.44am: Home favourite Hannah Miley kicked off the Commonwealth Games swimming in some style as she set a record in the opening race.

Miley, the defending 400 metres individual medley champion from Delhi, set a Games record time of four minutes 38.27 seconds in the opening swim of the competition.

It secured her place in tonight’s final, with domestic rival, Aimee Willmott of England, also qualifying in the second heat.

11.02am: Scotland also had a win in the Lawn Bowls at Kelvingrove with David Peacock, Neil Speirs and Darren Burnett securing a 27-6 triples triumph over Indian trio Kamal Kumar Sharma, Sunil Bahadur and Samit Malhotra.

10.58am: A fundraising appeal for children’s charity Unicef made during the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games has reached £3.1 million.

More than half a million people in the UK responded after watching an appeal by James McAvoy and Sir Chris Hoy at Celtic Park in Glasgow.

A total of 595,000 people have made donations by text alone, Unicef UK said, with many more contributing online.

10:54am: Sir Bradley Wiggins makes his return to the track this morning in what he believes will be a three-way battle for gold in the team pursuit at the Commonwealth games.

Since winning the team and individual pursuits at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, Wiggins’ attention has been focused on road racing, but his next major aim is a Commonwealth gold followed by a fifth Olympic gold on the track at Rio 2016.

He lines up alongside Ed Clancy, Steven Burke and Andy Tennant in the England team today as he aims to lay down a marker at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.

10:52am: The gay kiss in the 2014 Games opening ceremony has been hailed as a snub to homophobia in Commonwealth countries which criminalise homosexuality.

Openly gay entertainer John Barrowman kissed a male “bride” at a mock Gretna Green during the Opening Ceremony at Celtic Park last night.

Forty two out of 53 Commonwealth countries represented at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow criminalise homosexuality in some way.

10:26am: Mo Farah pulls out of Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

He said on Twitter: “My body is telling me it’s not ready to race yet. Best wishes to my fellow athletes in Glasgow.”
