Commonwealth champs Miley and Renwick show their class

Hannah Miley raised her tally to six gold medals as she continued to show her all-round ability at the British Gas Scottish Short Course Championships at Tollcross Leisure Centre in Glasgow.

On the second day of competition, the 21-year-old, who holds the European and Commonwealth titles in the 400m individual medley, won the 200m backstroke (2:12.68), 100m butterfly (1:01.14) and 400m freestyle (4:10.11).

The heavy load of competition - she chases another four golds in today's final session - is a welcome break from training for the Inverurie swimmer.

"I'm nine weeks into a new block of work and the snow has made getting to the pool and all the training quite a challenge," admitted Miley, who is coached at the Garioch Pool by her father, Patrick. "Luckily I get a lot of support from my family.

"This is a tough weekend with so many events, but that's they way I like it when I come to a Scottish Championship."

Robbie Renwick, the Commonwealth Games 200m freestyle champion, claimed his third title of the weekend in the 100m freestyle. He held off Edinburgh University's Ally Brown by over a second to win in 49.10.

At the start of the evening, Robbie's two mentors were recognised by a special Sportscotland coaching award.

It went posthumously to Eileen Adams - who coached Renwick until her death from cancer last April - and also to his new coach at the City of Glasgow, Graham Wardell.

Edinburgh University's Kathryn Johnstone, who stopped Miley from a possible clean sweep of 11 titles by winning the 100m breaststroke on Friday, made it a double by adding the 50m event in 31.69.

Warrender's Lewis Smith also completed a victory double in the medley events, adding the 200m (2:00.84) to the 100m distance he won on Friday. His favourite 400m medley takes place this evening.
