Colleges seek double cup triumph at Murrayfield

STEWART’S Melville will chase two titles at Murrayfield tonight, challenging first for the Brewin Dolphin Scottish Schools under-15 Cup final against the best of the west in the form of Hutchesons’ Grammar School.

The fact they have two teams in tonight’s finals will ensure a large support for Colleges. Coached by Jimmy Moran, the under-15 side has made massive progress in recent weeks. “They’ve really turned themselves around,” said head of games, Bryn Lockie. “They’re playing some good rugby and the key thing is that they really work for each other and believe in themselves.”

Stew-Mel came through a tough semi-final against Edinburgh Academy at Newfield, which ended in a 3-3 draw. The ‘away’ rule was then invoked, giving Stew-Mel victory.

For Hutchesons’ the appearance in the final ends a frustrating wait, after reaching the penultimate stage for five successive years. Hutchesons’ reached the final with a 10-7 win over George Watson’s College in the semi-finals.

“We will go in as underdogs but we prefer that,” said Hutchesons’ director of sport, Stuart Lang. “I’ve just told the boys to enjoy the experience of playing at Murrayfield.”
