Cockburn looking ahead

Dave COCKBURN reckons he has at least one big rugby coaching assignment left to fulfil after stepping down at Lasswade.

In five years the former Scotland B prop helped Lasswade win three titles and two promotions as well as a couple of trophies on Murrayfield Finals Day.

Inevitably, then, he will be heavily linked with a vacancy at the Boroughmuir club which gave him a leg up to representative honours and while “Coby” is keeping his counsel as to the next move he admits: “I am 60 soon and about to retire from the teaching profession. With such a big life change it is time to look around in rugby, too; I definitely want to stay involved.”

Cockburn’s coaching cv includes Scotland Under-21s, Watsonians, Hawks, Peebles and Corstorphine where he stopped playing in his 40s.
