Clydesdale can threaten Grange's bid to chase down Watsonians

GRANGE skipper Sanjay Patel believes his side are ready for the big month ahead, starting with today's visit of Clydesdale to Raeburn Place in the SNCL Premier Division.

With four matches to go the Edinburgh outfit are still in with a good chance of adding to the titles they won in 2006 and 2008 but they know they cannot look past the clash with the Titwood club, who themselves won the top flight title in 2004 and 2005.

Grange's Cammy Coles is back from a hamstring injury to replaces Jonny Gray and add batting strength but Gregor Maiden and Stuart Davidson have not yet recovered from a broken thumb and finger respectively.

Patel said: "We know how dangerous Clydesdale can be with them having beaten us earlier in the summer and they always seem to raise their game against us. Having Cammy back is good for us while Oli Hairs comes into the game off the back of a century for the Scotland Lions, which should see him in confident mood.

"With Watsonians going well and some good cricket being played throughout the division the next four weeks should be exciting."

Clydesdale travel east after a win over Uddingston last week and, in pro Kamran Sajid, they have the second-highest runs scorer in the top flight.

Leaders Watsonians head to Aberdeenshire with Vijay Saisubramanian replacing unavailable Scotland under-15 coach Craig Wright in the team.

All-rounder Stuart Chalmers will arrive at Mannofield in confident mood with 28 wickets to his name, including five against Greenock seven days ago.

Three of Aberdeenshire's last four matches are against teams in the top four and last year's champions will not want to go out with a whimper. Skipper Neil Macrae has targeted two wins in the final month.

Dunfermline Knights are in third and captain Alistair Gray wants his players to concentrate on their own games when they welcome Uddingston to McKane Park today.

The South African, top run-scorer in the division, said: "We were pleased to defeat Carlton last week, but we are not thinking about winning the title as that is probably out of our own hands. At the start of the season we wanted a top three place and we are currently on track for that so we have to keep on performing well.

"I have been pleased to see players such as Aamir Shahzad and Safyaan Sharif doing well in recent weeks and they are really coming on as cricketers."

The scalps of Cedric English, Steve Gilmour and Jamie Kerr against Carlton last week meant that teenager Sharif now has 20 wickets for the summer.

Uddingston travel to Fife in seventh place and know, like most teams, just how destructive Gray can be. In the match between the teams earlier in the season he hit 131 and Uddingston will need the likes of Paul Hoffman and Sameer Zia on top form to counter his ongoing run spree. On Sunday the Knights take on the National Academy, also at McKane Park.

Carlton will be looking to bounce back from last week's loss at home to Forfarshire. One change for the Edinburgh club sees seamer Mohammed Habib, who has 27 second XI wickets, replace spinner Tom Clarke.

Fifth-placed Forfarshire travel south with what looks set to be the same XI which lost at Aberdeenshire.

Greenock, all out for 59 last week at Watsonians, host fellow strugglers McCrea FS West. The Hamilton Cresent side are the only team Greenock have beaten in the league in 2010.
